Mixed Media Background-Tutorial
For this background I used Bazzill white cardstock and started covering it with gesso.
When the gesso is completely dry, I made some texture with a harlequin mask
and light molding paste. I like to make masks myself with the Silhouette, this is also a good way to use up
all those colors of cardstock that you never use.
When this layer dried, I added a layer of texture with another mask and light molding paste.
When this layer was dry as well, I colored the entire page with Faber Castell Gelato’s.
I used blue and grey and later on I added some black as well.
During the coloring I sprayed the page with water and rubbed
the color in all the texture with my finger.
When the entire page was colored, I sprayed more water and had the page standing
straight up so the color was dripping over the page.
You can keep on adding more color, spraying and dripping it over and over again
until you’re happy with the result. Again, you have to let this completely dry.
I added some finishing touches with a Faber Castell black pitt pen around the harlequin shapes.
Now that your background is finished, you can start making your layout.
