learn how to create this cute little Artjournal with Cre8tive Cre8tions by Andrea Gomoll Stamps

I would love to share with you today my art journal I made using the ‘Wild Soul’ stamp set and some ideas on how to make art journaling on a regular basis a little easier by sharing with you how I prepare my art journal so I do not have blank page fear.

I started with a Craft Photo Album I found on eBay. The album was around $10 AUD and I find that this is a wonderful basis for an art journal. Because it was a cheap investment I do not get scared to art journal in it like I do a more expensive art journal. I find I am more free to play and experiment with my art supplies because it does not matter if it does not turn out how I would like it too as I have not invested much money.

This is how my art journal looked when I purchased it. It comes with 40 pages of good quality craft cardstock.

To prepare the art journal to cope with layers and layers of paint I love to add when I create I begin by taking apart my album and apply a coat of gesso to the front cover and each side of the internal pages.

I find if my art journal pages are partly started I will art journal regularly as I do not have to face the fear of a blank page. Once the gesso has dried I add layers of paint and sometimes stencilling to each page. I find if I choose a colour scheme I love this also helps me to pick up my art journal regularly and create. Each page is different in my journal but the same colour scheme through out.

For the front cover I added lots and lots of gorgeous layers of acrylic paint, watercolors, stamps, stencilling,  gesso, Heidi Swapp Color Shine Spray and paint splatters. I just keep adding layers and layers until I am happy with the final result. I knew I wanted one of the feathers from the stamp set to be a main image you see when I had finished the journal cover, so I made sure it was one of the last things I added before a final brayer gesso layer and paint splatters.

Inspired by using the feathers on my dream catcher I made a ribbon tassel to add to the side of my art journal.

Once all my paint was dry I reinforced the folds of the journal with washi tape before putting all the pages back together with some white twine.

The front page of my journal is now ready for some journaling and final finishes. I had originally made my ‘Wild Soul’ girl tag to go on the front cover of my journal but when it was finished I decided it would look more beautiful on the front page instead.

My art journal is all ready for me to use on a regular basis without any fears of staring at a blank page. I hope this gives you inspiration to prepare an art journal in the colours you love, so you too can benefit from the joys of art journaling without any fears.

Xxx Wendy

You’re doing such marvelous things. You have successfully turned a hobby into an occupation and that’s much. I’m inspired.
I love making journals for my family and also I’m intending to make a short story I wrote into a hand made book and decided why not be inspired by the many journalers I find online.
I’m in the process of making an art/writing journal for an artist/writer and I’m inspired daily. Thanks very much for the share.ReplyCancel
